Just for the record, my favorite songs of the year were:
3. Private Island – “Enough”
2. Brian Fallon – “A Wonderful Life”
1. Chance the Rapper – “Angels”
Top 10 Albums:
10. A$AP Rocky – At. Long. Last. A$AP
9. JD McPherson – Let The Good Times Roll
8. Donnie Trumpet & Social Experiment – Surf
7. Leon Bridges – Coming Home
6. Vince Staples – Summertime ’06
5. Lucero – All a Man Should Do – The right Lucero album at the right time in my life.
4. Nathaniel Rateliff & The Nightsweats –Nathaniel Rateliff & The Nightsweats – One of the best debut albums in recent memory. Rateliff’s voice is massive. Plus, they were able to technically release the album under the Stax label. Instant classic.
3. Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp a Butterfly – Ditto to Roshan’s sentiments. This album will only grow in importance over time.
2. The Wonder Years – No Closer to Heaven – The Greatest Generation is a very important album to me, so expectations were high for this. TWY with this one solidified the fact that there is something special about this band that extends beyond the realm of pop punk.
1. Lord Huron – Strange Trails – The soundtrack to a movie that only exists in your head.
I just wanted to jump in one last time to say thank you. What started as a drunken IM conversation between Grizzly and myself back in ’07 escalated into getting to meet so many amazing people, artists and friends. I’ve seen and met artists that have had significant impacts on my life, and I owe it to this venture. To our readership: the fact that any of you gave even the slightest bit of a shit about what any of the three of us had to say about music has been nothing short of incredible. Thank you. And to Grizzly and Sunbear for all of their work and energy after life took over and I was no longer able contribute on a regular basis: we’ll be toasting to the memories we’ve made together for years to come, gentlemen. Cheers.
Call your mothers,
Panda
