photo recap: SXSW 2014

There’s not going to be a full recap of the weekend’s festivities. But myself, sunbear and our buddy Matthew Cooper went to Austin for the weekend to catch what we could of the SXSW hullabaloo. Matthew snapped a few photos, so we just threw em together in a Flickr photo set to partake in.

Here are a few SXSW notes:

– Our thoughts to anyone involved with the horrible accident that took place near the Mohawk on Wednesday night. We’ve been going to SXSW for 8 years now and it’s really awful to have to know that this kind of shit can infiltrate such a typically scot-free festival.

– My personal favorite act of the weekend would probably have to be Cee-Lo Green at the Rachel Ray party on Saturday, but the other two fellas would probably tell you it was either The Hold Steady at Brooklyn Vegan’s Red 7 Party, Childish Gambino‘s Butler Park performance or Chromeo‘s Fader Fort set.

– The BMI Acoustic Brunch was probably the best event I attended throughout the fest. Can you seriously go wrong with acoustic jams in an aesthetically pleasing courtyard with an open bar of mimis and bloody marys, as well as a full Brunch buffet. Seriously, there was a tub of bacon.

– The Captain America shot at Buckshots. You have to chug this thing, and it’s wonderful.

– I’m not sure we’ll be going next year. The experience altogether wasn’t the same this year. Granted, we had a ton of fun and had plenty of booze in us, but the “organic” experience of it is all but gone. Hell, even Schoolboy Q and Danny Brown think so. And I couldn’t agree more with either response.

Here’s the full photo set. Thanks again to Matthew for taking these, cause we weren’t going to.
