Dallas Green has been an incredibly busy man for the last seven years. As he’s been a full time member of Alexisonfire, he’s fit City & Colour into his schedule when possible,. As far as touring goes, he’s been limited. He’s about to go on an immense world tour, starting with a few Texas dates, leading into ACL this weekend. Houston was the second stop on the tour, and I was more than happy to attend.
Recap after the jump.

As its own entity, City & Colour has never been to Houston in the seven years that they’ve been a band. So when they announced a tour stop at the House of Blues, “being excited” was an understatement. I had personally always been a bigger fan of the side project than the main course – Alexisonfire. The recent breakup of the band has made this tour even more substantial, as it’s the first time Dallas Green is on tour without Alexisonfire being on the back of his mind.

Right off the bat, you could tell that the nearly sold-out crowd was more than receptive of Dallas Green’s project, singing back every word to him like this was a Dashboard Confessional program circa 2002. And while there was a fair share of “I want your babies!” and “Marry me Dallas!” yelled throughout the night, the Houston crowd was ready for the early on fan-favorite performance of “Waiting” all the way through the showcasing of Little Hell tracks.

Dallas’ soothing and angelic voice was in top-notch form, as it never once broke up or faltered on stage. He was in prime form throughout, leaving little room for filler or in-between-song banter. One of the more memorable moments was right before he performed “Body in a Box,” he requested that everyone put their cellphones up, and just remember the performance for what it was – capturing the nostalgia that fueled the entire show to begin with.

By the time the end of the show came around, the crowd was hooked on every word he sang, calling him back for an encore of songs from Sometimes, including the title track and the somber “Comin’ Home,” which struck a chord with the 1000+ folks in attendance. So as it turns out, solo acts that use full bands on tour can put on incredibly entertaining and impactful shows. City & Colour were sure as hell responsible for one of the best shows of the year.
