this is a huuuuuge late pass, but better late than never. amidst all this graduating business, the job hunt and other things, i figured i had already written this recap, but it turns out i most certainly didn’t.
[ ed note: due to a scheduling mishap and a huge fuck-up on the venue’s behalf, jerome missed most of the show in dallas, which means he won’t be writing the recap as planned. doors were supposed to be at 8:30 according to the website, but upon his arrival at 9:30 p.m. due to work, he not only missed 1, but all three of the opening bands on this tour.]
manchester orchestra is currently on a huuuuge hype run off of their sophomore release, mean everything to nothing. normally, the hype gets to me (as it does all the bears), but this release is one of few that gets a huge co-sign from all three of us.
back in the day, tours used to be jam-packed with great line-ups and it just doesn’t happen anymore. however, the line-up for this tour was guaranteed to impress, and along for the ride with man-o were winston audio (interview coming very soon), audrye sessions and fun., all of whom played well and had impressive sets.
first was winston audio, who were basically rushed on and off the stage. the ATL natives blazed through a pretty energetic to an idle, but attentive crowd. touched base on and gave a really good preview of their debut album, the red rhythm, which is a great album. please check out the previous post on the band and don’t forget to keep a keen eye out for the interview.
audrye sessions follows, and i really enjoyed their set. i’m not a big fan as far as the recorded material goes (i’ve yet to listen to the album) but i’ll be getting on that as promptly as i can. they brought their own light set-up and while it was nice to see some aesthetics in the shithole that’s walters, it really turned the heat up in that place about 10-15 degrees. commence sweat beads. and note to all bands that play walters, be easy on me. i’m indian and sweat easily. it’s an affliction and i’m sure billions are affected. [ed note: i wasn’t familiar with any of their work, but the last song they played was incredible. anyone out there have a clue?]
then came fun. for someone who never got to see the format live (don’t judge me. it just never works out for some bands. see: jimmy eat world), it was nice to see them play a couple of format songs for the crowd. i’m realllllly looking forward to the full length, as every song they played live was entertaining, happy and would be perfect for this incredibly hot houston summer.
manchester came, saw and conquered. i’ve seen them a handful of times in the past, but was especially excited to catch the first tour in support of mean everything. naturally, they didn’t play colly strings and i’ve yet to see that performed a single time out of any of the four times i’ve seen them. they did a great job of intertwining old and new songs, and andy was pretty much dead-on the entire night. hoping they roll through again with another lineup as incredible as this particular one ASAP.
third eye blind on tuesday. expect a recap, and not two weeks after the show.
